Upgraded aircraft operates in Turkey


Geilenkirchen, Germany - On Monday, 26 February 2018, NATO AWACS E-3A Aircraft #453 took off to Forward Operating Base (FOB) Konya, Turkey to continue the Counter ISIL mission.

This marks a special occasion as this aircraft is the first to have the upgraded Communication, Navigation, Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) capability within the NAEW&C Force operating from FOB Konya.

The CNS/ATM reduces cockpit crew to two pilots and one flight engineer; removing the need for a navigator.
The modification of each aircraft will takes an average of 150 calendar days. The entire modification contract will be completed by the end of 2018.
